4 Hot tips for visiting Lake of the Ozarks

by | Nov 19, 2018 | Interviews, Live Like a Local

If you are heading to Lake of the Ozarks any time soon, congratulations! It’s a great lake with an exciting culture and so many marine activities. In fact, there are so many things to do that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. We are here to help with your lake-cation! We talked to Amanda Rowden, operator of Iguana Watersports at Lake of the Ozarks. She has lived in the area for decades, and is a bonafide expert on directing people to the best things about the Lake.

Here are her tips for enjoying your time at Lake of the Ozarks!

1: No matter who you are or who you’re with, there is a restaurant or bar for you!

Because there is so much shoreline, there are so many things to do at Lake of the Ozarks. I would definitely recommend visiting the restaurants and bars. There is a location for everybody. There are new water bars that have recently put in pools that have huge parties for holiday weekends. If you are looking for family friendly locations, I would check out Dog Days, Franky and Louie’s, and especially Jolly Rogers to check out the pirate ship.

2: Don’t miss out on the natural and cultural landmarks

I would recommend our fantastic state parks: Public Beach 1 and Public Beach 2, as well as Bridal Cave. When it comes to cultural and natural landmarks at Lake of the Ozarks, Ha Ha Tonka is a must-see. There is nothing prettier than seeing the castle ruins and the beautiful natural landscape. You can park in the dock there and have a picnic or spend some time in the spring with the family.

3: If you’re looking for fishing, Amanda’s got you covered.

Fishing is the most popular year-round activity here at Lake of the Ozarks. There are fishing tournaments throughout the year, and the Lake has plenty of fishing from crappy to catfish to bass. If you don’t have a fishing boat or you just don’t want to bring it along from out of state, Iguana has you covered. We have 3 fishing boats in our fleet, 2 of them actually being bass boats that you can tournament fish with.

4: Don’t get lost – use the RaftUp app

The Lake of the Ozarks is so big that it’s easy to get lost. It’s is important to know your mile markers and landmarks. The way I navigate the Lake of the Ozarks is the RaftUp app. It’s an amazing app that will show you all of the water bars, mile markers, fuel docks, and more. The best part of the RaftUp app is that if you get lost or you need help on the water, you can use the app’s SOS feature to send your location to the proper channels.

Thanks again to Amanda for sharing her expertise. You can check out the boat rental inventory at Iguana Watersports.

However you choose to enjoy your time at the Lake of the Ozarks, give the RaftUp activity feed a try!

You can post your adventures and do a little bit of showing off.
